The Blog Content
Everything published on this site — the posts, the characters, the cattle references, the grizzled PI, Todd, Kevin, all of it — is mine. I wrote it, I own it, and I’d appreciate you treating it accordingly.
What you’re welcome to do:
- Read it, share it, link to it, quote short excerpts with attribution
- Reference it in your own work with a link back to the original
- Send it to your colleagues who really need to check their storage account permissions
What you’re not welcome to do:
- Republish full posts or substantial portions of posts on your own site without permission
- Pass off my content as your own
- Use it for commercial purposes without asking first
If you want to republish something, just ask. I’m generally reasonable about it — I just want to know where my work is going.
It’s a Blog, Not a Consulting Engagement
This is important, so I’m going to be direct about it.
The content on this site is published for informational and educational purposes. It reflects my experience, my opinions, and my perspective built over 25 years in IT and security. It is not formal professional advice tailored to your specific environment, organization, or situation.
Cybersecurity is complicated. Every environment is different. What worked at a pharmaceutical company with GxP-regulated systems and a hybrid Azure environment may not be the right answer for your organization. What I describe as a best practice may not be appropriate given your specific constraints, compliance requirements, or risk tolerance.
In plain English: Don’t make significant security decisions based solely on a blog post. Use this content as a starting point, a reference, a “hey, I should look into this” prompt — not as a substitute for qualified professional assessment of your specific environment.

The Consulting Side
The Let’s Talk Shop page describes consulting services I offer as an independent practitioner. A few things worth being clear about:
Inquiries are not engagements. Reaching out through the site, connecting on LinkedIn, or having an initial conversation doesn’t create a professional engagement or any obligation on either side. Actual consulting engagements are governed by separate written agreements between us — not by anything on this website.
Nothing on this site is legal, financial, or regulatory advice. I can help you build a security program, assess your Microsoft environment, and think through your compliance posture — but I’m a security practitioner, not a lawyer or a CPA. For legal or financial matters, talk to someone who is.
Results vary. I’ll always give you my honest best, but I can’t guarantee specific outcomes. Security is a process, not a destination, and anyone who promises you otherwise is selling something.
Third-Party Links
Occasionally I’ll link to external sites, tools, vendor documentation, or resources I find useful. I don’t control those sites, I’m not responsible for their content, and linking to something isn’t an endorsement of everything on it. Click external links with the same healthy skepticism you’d apply to anything on the internet.
Comments and Community
If you leave a comment on a post, you’re responsible for what you write. Keep it constructive, keep it professional, and don’t be the person who makes me have to write a more detailed comments policy. I reserve the right to remove comments that are abusive, spammy, or otherwise not adding anything useful to the conversation.
Privacy
How I handle your data is covered in the Privacy Policy, which lives separately on this site. Short version: I’m not doing anything weird with your information.
Changes to These Terms
I’ll update these terms if something meaningful changes — new site features, new services, or if a lawyer tells me I really need to add something. The “last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after an update means you’re okay with the new terms.
The Bottom Line
I built this site to share what I know, help people do their jobs better, and occasionally make someone laugh about a misconfigured storage account. I’m not trying to hide anything in the fine print — this is the fine print, and it says exactly what it means.
